Bundesliga side Werder Bremen have dismissed coach Horst Steffen after only seven months in the job, following a run of 10 consecutive games without victory.
"It was a difficult decision, but we no longer believe that Horst will be able to turn things around with the team after this long winless streak," sporting director Clemens Fritz was quoted as saying in a statement released by the club on Sunday.
Assistant coaches Raphael Duarte and Christian Gross are set to step in in the interim.
"We are intensively searching for a new head coach and will take the time necessary to find the best solution for Werder," said Fritz.
Bremen are only one point above the danger zone in 15th place, after a 1-1 draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.
