AFCON: How did Lookman influence Nigeria's recent victory against Tanzania?
Nigeria began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations journey with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tanzania at the Fez stadium in Morocco. The Super Eagles took the lead in the 36th minute through a headed goal by Semi Ajayi, following a cross from Alex Iwobi. Nigeria nearly doubled their advantage early in the second half, but Victor Osimhen's goal was disallowed for offside.
Tanzania responded in the 52nd minute with a clever finish from Charles M'mombwa to level the score. The equalizer was short-lived, however, as Ademola Lookman restored Nigeria's lead moments later with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area. The Tanzanian side launched late attacks in search of an equalizer, but the Nigerian defense held firm to secure the win and claim all three points.
