AFCON: Botswana's record edition by edition
Botswana is making cautious strides in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations. Nicknamed the Zebras, the Botswanan side has long only brushed the edges of the continental stage, with just a single appearance before the upcoming edition. That debut, back in 2012, mainly served to highlight the gap that still separated the national team from African football's top standards.
During that AFCON, co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, Botswana failed to make it past the group stage. Eliminated in the opening round, the Zebras nonetheless gained newfound visibility—a symbol of a footballing nation striving for structure and continuity.
