Zimbabwe is one of those African national teams whose continental journey has been shaped by patience. Independent since 1980, the Warriors had to wait nearly two decades before tasting the Africa Cup of Nations, earning their first qualification in 2004. It was a late debut on the African stage, marked by ambitions still taking shape.
Since that first appearance, Zimbabwe's participations have been irregular and often frustrating. Each return to the finals has delivered the same verdict: elimination in the group stage, with the symbolic hurdle of the first round remaining unconquered. Repeated absences, followed by the suspension that ruled the country out of AFCON 2023, have stalled any sporting momentum.
