On just the first day of Las Vegas, you can see why Michigan was the clear-cut best team in the college world this past season. If a national championship wasn't enough evidence, their three-headed frontcourt monster showed why they all went top 12 in the 2026 NBA draft.
The Golden State Warriors stayed ahead in their 101-90 Summer League win over the Dallas Mavericks. The final result in these games is trivial. More importantly, both teams surely feel happy about how their respective top draft pick played.
Morez Johnson Jr. showed why he was a late riser in the 2026 NBA draft. The Mavericks took him with the No. 9 pick. He was the first Michigan player to go off the board. He finished with 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting, eight rebounds and three assists. He also had three steals and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Yaxel Lendeborg continues to defy his skeptics. He had 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, 10 rebounds and six assists. The 23-year-old was taken with the No. 11 pick.
And then there's Aday Mara. The Oklahoma City Thunder took him with the No. 12 pick. He's had a couple of Summer League outings under his belt at Utah, but nothing that pops off the box-score sheet like Johnson Jr. and Lendeborg had in their clash. That said, can't get too wrapped up in the Summer League.
Still, Mara took to social media to show off his amazement at his two former Michigan teammates. The Wolverines dominated the rest of the collegiate field thanks to those three. Now, they're hoping to have great starts to their respective NBA journeys.
