NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addressed the flopping issues that the league faces on Monday. Fans and analysts have identified flopping as one of the association’s main problems. Ahead of Game 3 of the Finals, Silver told ESPN’s “Inside the NBA” that the league will review the flopping rules during summer league games.
NBA players have been frustrated over the inconsistencies in officiating games. More specifically, they have an issue when it comes to players exploiting the officiating in their favor. In the 2023-24 season, the league implemented the in-game flopping penalty.
According to the rule, players who are called for a flop will be charged with a non-unsportsmanlike technical foul, and the opposing team is awarded one free throw attempt. Over the past few seasons, however, it hasn’t been consistent.
The NBA will take some time to review plays to improve the flopping rule, according to Adam Silver.
Former NBA star Charles Barkley chimed in during the segment and said that flopping has always been part of the game. Players always sell contact to generate easy points from the free-throw line or get an extra possession. However, Barkley believes that adjustments can be made to improve the game.

Ahead of Monday’s Game 3, it was confirmed that President Donald Trump will make an appearance. There were mixed reactions from fans and players about having the POTUS at Madison Square Garden.
Adam Silver broke his silence about Trump’s appearance and said this:
Adam Silver said that Trump has always demonstrated his devotion to the Knicks, even before he entered politics. He attended games and sat courtside in the past, and the commissioner called him a “genuine Knicks fan.”

“When we put the flopping rule in place, there was egregious flopping,” Silver said. “Players are taught to sell the calls where there is a foul, but they’re trying to draw the call. We’re going to look in the offseason. We have a two-day competition committee meeting in Vegas where we will watch over 1,000 plays over two days and see if we should set that line in a different place.”

Adam Silver broke his silence about Trump’s appearance and said this:
“I found out because Jim Dolan invited him to the game, and he said yes. He’s welcome to be here. I think what makes sports so special, especially when there’s so much that divides people, is that it’s something we have in common,” Silver argued. “We should look for those things we share and build off that.”
