Adam Schefter reveals timeline for Aaron Donald's Rams return originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Los Angeles Rams and their fanbase surely are still hoping that Aaron Donald returns from retirement.

It would give them a fearsome front to their defense as Donald would join the newly traded-for Myles Garrett.

It's just not certain that Donald will return as of yet.

The rumors began pretty much the moment that Garrett was acquired from the Cleveland Browns, and they appear to be legitimate. Donald hasn't pushed back on them.

He just hasn't made up his mind yet.

ESPN's Adam Schefter said on his podcast that it's still being worked through for Donald himself.

“Aaron Donald is essentially trying to get himself ready for the upcoming season,” Schefter said. “I don’t think, and it doesn’t sound like, we’re gonna get an immediate answer, or an immediate signing, of Aaron Donald. He is too busy trying to get himself back into football shape, to try to regain some of the form he might’ve lost in two years away from football, and he’s not gonna come back until he feels like he’s ready to be Aaron Donald again.”

The reality is that the Rams wouldn't turn down a desire from Donald to return, so it's really all in his hands.

Even at the end of his career, Donald was a dominant force on the interior of the defensive line. And he retired earlier than most do, so he likely still has something left in the tank.

Donald has suggested he wants to feel the fire inside of himself that lets him know he'd be happy back on an NFL field.

Apparently, he's still working to reawaken that, and only then will the Rams know the final outcome of his decision.
