Mock draft after mock draft has had the Jacksonville Jaguars taking Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham at pick No. 5. However, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, that does not appear to be the direction that the Jaguars are headed.
While appearing on the Unsportsmanlike Podcast, Schefter said that he is "comfortable" in saying that Graham will not be the pick at fifth overall.
"The one thing I feel pretty comfortable in saying is I don't believe that Mason Graham is gonna go No. 5," Schefter said via Jaguars on SI. "Don't believe he's going No. 5. Okay, so what is Jacksonville doing?"
"I would just say that the sense I am getting is that Jacksonville very well, again there are no absolutes, this is all informed speculation. But the sense that I am getting is that Jacksonville very well could be an offensive player. And it could be Ashton Jeanty, and it could be Tet McMillan. Like, we don't know where it is going right now. But I feel pretty comfortable in saying I don't think it is going Mason Graham."
This update from Schefter comes on the heels of one executive telling him that the Jaguars are considered a "wild card" at pick No. 5. However, Schefter believing that the Jaguars are going to prioritize offense with that fifth pick also aligns with what SI's NFL insider Albert Breer is hearing as well.
As Schefter mentions, Ashton Jeanty--who there has been a lot of buzz around--and Tetairoa McMillan are two possible options. If available, perhaps Will Campbell along the offensive line or Armand Membou could be two other prospects on the offensive side of the ball that could interest the Jaguars.
As Liam Coen has mentioned, he wants to make sure that there is balance around quarterback Trevor Lawrence so that he doesn't feel like he has to be Superman on every play.
Adding another playmaking weapon on offense will help shoulder some of that playmaking burden while also taking some of the attention off of Brian Thomas. And when it comes to potentially adding to the offensive line, consistent success for the Jaguars' offense is going to start with stout play in the trenches providing a run game to lean on and time in the pocket--all of which will help Lawrence.
