A’ja Wilson had some thoughts to share after a physical exchange with Allisha Gray turned into a flagrant foul call during Las Vegas’ 109-87 win over Atlanta on Monday. The Aces star addressed the postgame moment between the two, which came after contact from Wilson was upgraded to a flagrant foul following Gray’s animated reaction on the play.
Wilson did not hold back her honest take on what actually happened.
“Lish is an animated player,” Wilson said. “I was just telling her I really didn’t make all that contact for her to act the way she was acting. But she sold it, got the call, so proud of her.”

Wilson’s comments carried a playful tone rather than any real frustration, acknowledging Gray’s ability to draw the whistle even if she believed the contact did not warrant the reaction it got.
Las Vegas dominated the matchup regardless, with Jackie Young recording her third career triple-double, 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Wilson chipped in 23 points as the Aces pulled away in a 33-14 second quarter to take control, continuing a stretch of historic form that has defined her season.
Gray, a three-time All-Star and the 2024 WNBA Three-Point Shootout champion, has built a reputation this season for being especially vocal in moments like these, coming off a stretch that also included a game-winning shot to beat the Dallas Wings.
She has not been shy about calling out officiating when she feels it has gone against her team, including a memorable midgame comment earlier this year in which she bluntly labeled the refereeing “trash” during a tight loss to the Golden State Valkyries.
Despite the physical nature of the play, Wilson’s remarks made clear there was no bad blood between the two stars. Her respect for Gray’s craft, drawing contact and selling the moment to get the desired call, came through even as she jokingly disputed the severity of what actually happened.
For two of the league’s most competitive players, the moment was less about controversy and more about mutual respect for gamesmanship, a reminder that even hard-fought exchanges between rivals can end with a laugh rather than lingering tension.
