We have a minor summer ACC Roundup.
First up: bad news for Miami as Marcus Allen has blown out an ACL and will miss the entire season. This is a terrible break for the kid, who just got over non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Here’s hoping he stays strong and fights his way back again. That’s just dreadful luck.
Secondly, former Clemson forward RJ Godfrey, who left Clemson for a year at Georgia before coming back, is leaving again. This time he’ll be with Arizona, which needs another forward. He has an excellent chance of starting there, and at the least, gets to see a higher, better version of basketball than he would get at Clemson. We admire what Brad Brownell has done there, but Clemson is not Arizona.
And finally, in what seems like an unforced error, new Boston College coach Luke Murray has had his radio crew fired. Apparently he wants absolutely nothing to do with what he sees as “the losing mentality” of BC prior to Murray.
We think he’s going to do well, but he has totally mismanaged this situation. The BC crew – Kevin Collins and Josh Maurer – had been seeking to meet with Murray for some time, but were constantly being put off. Now, in August, Murray has let them know their services are no longer required.
If he had told them in the spring, they might have been able to find other positions, but in August? That’s going to be very hard to do.
If he had addressed this situation quickly and directly, things would not be this ugly, and now he looks somewhat cowardly for not having done so.
If that’s how he wants to do things, it’s his program now, but it’s a very bad look. If he continues to do things this way, Boston College is going to have some major issues down the road. We hate to put it in these terms, but it really does seem like the sort of thing that Hubert Davis, with his weak people skills, might have done.
