Penn State alumnus Abdul Carter didn’t have the greatest rookie season, but that did little to change the way people view his talent. He was still one of the most productive rookies in the league despite his low sack numbers, generating the seventh-most quarterback pressures in the entire league.

NFL.com recently published a list of the best players at each position who are under 25 years old, and Carter was one of the edge rushers named. After seeing how explosive and dominant he was with the Nittany Lions, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before the production starts to match his impact.

The New York Giants are going to need him to take the next step this season after they traded defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II to the Cincinnati Bengals. The former All-Pro ate up double teams in the middle of the line, so there will be a lot more pressure on Carter and his teammates on the defensive line to generate pressure on their own.

The Giants enter this season with new leadership and a clean slate for all the players on the roster. With a defensive-minded head coach in John Harbaugh, look out for Carter to carry the Nittany Lions legacy in a big way this season.
