Athletes from Hoover and Jackson high schools won the voting for the Stark County Athlete of the Year.
Abby LaPole, who starred in basketball and track and field at Jackson, is the girls winner. The boys winner is Jack Andes, who played football and baseball at Hoover.
LaPole received 62.64% of the girls vote and Andes received 84.74% of the boys vote. A total of 23,318 votes were cast overall. Look for more on the two athletes below.
With the OHSAA sports season over for the 2025-26 school year, we're looking back at the best of the school year, with readers voting to determine who they think were Stark County's best teams, coaches and athletes of the past 11 months.

Became a four-time All-Ohio pick in wheelchair basketball, just the second athlete in the state to achieve that feat, and won her third straight girls seated shot put state title. She graduated as the all-time county record holder in the seated shot put with a throw of 23-11.
Selected the Stark County player of the year in football and baseball by the Repository, helping lead the Vikings to the state playoffs in football and the state final four in baseball.
