Following the team's 8-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opening game of today's doubleheader, Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke to the media about the team's recent struggles at the plate.
"Obviously, we have to be able to do more," said Boone. "We've been saying that a lot over these last few weeks."
Boone took the time to recognize how the team's hitters have responded in the absence of team captain and superstar slugger Aaron Judge, who has been sidelined since the beginning of June.
"I feel like we have good players, in some cases young players that have to keep getting better. Of the six weeks Judge has been down, I feel like the first two to three weeks, we were getting it done [offensively]. But then we went through a stretch of 15-20 games where we were not scoring enough, not pressuring enough, and we have to find a way, especially going up against good teams with good pitching [such as the Dodgers]."
The skipper was then asked about second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., and the impact he can bring to the lineup when he's at his best.
Boone reflected on his lefty infielder's season at the dish thus far, remarking that "He's had some big swings and some clutch at-bats. He's one of those guys we expect a lot of."
"He hasn't gone on that hot streak this year yet, got off to a slow start in April, and it's been up and down for the last few months. But he can change the game in a lot of different ways offensively, so we have got to get him there."
