WINDBER, Pa. – Zanesville right-handers Dakota Foltz and Ashton Ansel combined on a four-hit shutout as the Junior Pioneers defeated Schenectady PNA 6-0 Tuesday morning during an All American Amateur Baseball Association Tournament game at Windber Sports Complex.
Zanesville improved to 1-1 in Pool D play, while Schenectady slipped to 0-2.
Jake Ralph went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored for Zanesville. Peyton Tichenor added two knocks.
Schenectady's Kaden Jones and Noah Kiefer each doubled. Starter Tyler Kimball allowed three unearned runs in five innings. Jackson Dwyer permitted a run in two frames.
Foltz fanned six batters and walked three over seven innings, permitting three hits. Foltz threw 62 of his 109 pitches for strikes. Ansel totaled two strikeouts and two walks over two frames. Ansel tossed 19 of his 38 pitches for strikes.
Zanesville, which left 13 runners on base, broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Junior Pioneers added one in the seventh and two in the eighth.
Schenectady stranded nine runners on base.
Zanesville outhit Schenectady 6-4.
Schenectady meets Altoona-1 Imler's Poultry at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Roxbury Park. Buffalo faces Zanesville at noon Wednesday in Portage.
