CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy − Breezy Johnson is living her best life.
When Johnson's now-fiancé, Connor Watkins, proposed to the newly-minted Olympic downhill champion after the super-G on Thursday, Feb. 12, he gave her a block with lyrics from Taylor Swift's "The Alchemy." Johnson and Watkins included that in the Instagram post announcing their engagement, and Swift noticed it.
"Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me,” Swift replied, quoting more of the song's lyrics. "CONGRATULATIONS!!!"
Johnson posted a screenshot of Swift's reply on her Instagram story, saying, "I am deaddddddd."
Johnson said The Alchemy has become a special song for her and Watkins. It came out in the summer of 2024, about the time they moved in together, and is believed to be about Swift's relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
"The Alchemy is a song about a sports person and the poet that are in love. And I feel like he's the poet and I'm the sports person," Johnson said. "We always hear the song and we smile and think about each other. ... It's just kind of really special to us."
Making the day even better, Johnson said on her Instagram story that she had gotten her original medal back.
Johnson's gold medal from the downhill broke when she was jumping up and down celebrating. Officials took the old medal and gave her a new one, but it wasn't engraved like the original one was. Johnson said she would have preferred to keep the original one, but had been told that wasn't possible.
