76ers' move makes it clear they don't want to keep Andre Drummond originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Philadelphia 76ers seem to be moving on from Andre Drummond.
That's what their signing of Ariel Hukporti on Wednesday signals, for a couple of reasons.
Hukporti, a young center who was a free agent from the New York Knicks, can take over a backup spot that Drummond previously occupied.
The big fella is also getting money that likely would've been allotted to Drummond, but probably can't quite be given to both:
Ariel Hukporti is getting some of what's left of the Non-Taxpayer MLE (most went to Dean Wade) from the Philadelphia 76ers.
May take a return for Andre Drummond to the Sixers out of the mix.

MORE: Bronny James' best future doesn't involve a trade from Lakers
Drummond is 32 years old now, but he was reliable for the 76ers last season.
In 2025-26, Drummond played 63 games and averaged 6.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
He's also surprisingly turned himself into a capable 3-point shooter. He made 35.6% of his shots from beyond the arc last season.
Drummond remains one of the league's best per-minute rebounders, and with his ability to shoot it a bit, he'll get another contract elsewhere.
It does seem like the 76ers have decided to get younger, though -- or they've got other moves coming to keep space open for Drummond.
