The Washington Huskies avoided a sweep at the hands of their arch-rival, the Oregon Ducks on Sunday, with a 9-5 win over the No. 13 team in the country.

Coach Eddie Smith's team got off to a hot start and never looked back after Sam DeCarlo kicked things off with a two-run home run in the first inning. The shortstop reached base five times in the victory, going 3-for-3 with a pair of walks and 2 runs scored to go along with his two runs batted in before the Huskies exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning.

The massive frame was highlighted by a solo home run from left fielder Jackson Hotchkiss, who went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, and a three-run bomb off the bat of third baseman Blake Wilson as Washington collected 5 hits in the frame and faced three Duck pitchers in the inning.

Starter Hayden Lewis didn't need much else in a dominant outing, where he improved to 6-4 on the year. He worked 8 innings and let up 4 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits and 3 walks with 8 strikeouts while giving the bullpen a much-needed day of rest, as three of the runs he surrendered all came across in his final frame. The only Duck he didn't have a real answer for was catcher Brayden Jaksa, who went 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs in the contest.

Miles Gosztola took the loss for Oregon after working 4 2/3 innings and letting up 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts along the way.

With the win, the Huskies improved to 21-26 on the year and 10-14 in Big Ten play. Next, they'll head to Bellevue, Washington, on Tuesday, May 5, for a matchup with Seattle University, with first pitch set for 4:00 p.m. PT.
