Green Bay Packers training camp kicks off in just over a week, with players hitting the practice field at Ray Nitschke Field just before the end of the month. There are a few notable injuries heading into camp and the Packers coaching staff could ease a few veterans into action, creating opportunities for younger players to prove themselves.
With just a few days remaining until practices get underway, let’s highlight a few young players on the Packers roster who are worth keeping a close eye on during camp.

The Packers found themselves a solid backup quarterback late in the offseason with the signing of Tyrod Taylor. With the top two spots on the depth chart locked up, all eyes should be on rookie quarterback Kyron Drones. Signed as a UDFA, the 6-foot-2 quarterback offers enticing athleticism with good arm strength. He’s a project player for head coach Matt LaFleur to develop, but his standout dual-threat ability offers an enticing package that could be molded into a career as a viable backup. Green Bay probably won’t keep four quarterbacks for the entirety of training camp, so Drones should get a chance to battle with Kyle McCord for the QB3 gig and a spot on the practice squad.

Snagged by Green Bay with the 54th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Anthony Belton started seven games in his rookie season. It was a challenging first season in the NFL, especially in pass protection. Belton was recently chosen by ESPN‘s Ben Solak as the top breakout candidate on the Packers roster, and the team’s history of developing above-average starters on the interior offensive line bodes well for that happening. If Belton can take that real step forward in pass protection, it would be a massive boost for the Packers’ offensive line.

With Micah Parsons sidelined until October and a veteran edge rusher not added to the Packers roster this offseason, one of the youngsters must step up. Barryn Sorrell, the 124th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, played just 178 defensive snaps for Green Bay in his rookie campaign. Sorrell should get all the first-team reps he can handle with the Packers defense this summer, and it’s not out of the question that we see signs of that second-year leap from the 6-foot-3 pass rusher in training camp. If he is struggling a month in, though, Green Bay might need to tap into NFL free agency to find a better starter opposite Lukas Van Ness ahead of the regular season.

Chris McClellan, Green Bay’s third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, received additional reps in OTAs and minicamp thanks to some injuries. Assuming the Packers coaching staff still eases Javon Hargrave and Devonte Wyatt back into action, it stands to reason the rookie should receive a handful of first-team reps early in training camp. The 6-foot-3, 313-pound defensive tackle might even have a chance at unseating Karl Brooks as a starter on Green Bay’s defensive line if he performs well this summer. Given how thin the team is on the defensive interior, it feels like there is even more pressure riding on the rookie’s shoulders to be one of the team’s summer standouts.

Savion Williams rarely saw the field in his rookie season, handling just 21 touches across 12 regular-season games. With Dontayvion Wicks and Romeo Doubs out of town, it stands to reason that the 87th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft would be the front-runner to be Green Bay’s No. 4 wide receiver. However, some of what he does fits a role that is already filled by Jayden Reed. What is worth getting excited about is Williams’ explosiveness with the football in his hands and how Matt LaFleur can use that in his system now that the second-year wideout’s nagging foot issues are behind him.
