On Monday, July 27, Bucs defensive lineman Vita Vea requested a trade from the franchise that drafted him, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Vea is heading into the final year of a four-year, $71 million extension that he signed in January of 2022. The request comes on the heels of other notable defensive lineman extensions over the last year from the likes of Devonte Wyatt of the Green Bay Packers and Quinnen Williams of the Dallas Cowboys. Both their extension had them hovering around $20 million a year, while Vea is averaging just under $18 million.
To the somewhat benefit of the Bucs, this is an upcoming class that is loaded at the defensive line position. With that in mind, here are a handful of prospects who could make sense for the team if a trade were to occur:
Determining the type of player that could fit the Bucs will have to wait to be judged until we see what coaching staff is in place next year. If Todd Bowles returns, the Bucs could look for another nose tackle type. However, a different defensive mind could be coaching up the unit in 2027, and perhaps they look for more of a dynamic player in the middle in terms of build.
