The deadline to withdraw from the 2026 NBA draft is now behind us, and on an eventful Wednesday night, perhaps the most impactful decision came from former Iowa State star Milan Momcilovic.
A Second Team All-Big 12 selection this past season, Momcilovic entered the transfer portal while also declaring for the draft following the season. Now, with his decision to withdraw, the projected second-round pick becomes the highest-ranked uncommitted player in the transfer portal.
Momcilovic averaged 16.9 points with 3.1 rebounds for the Cyclones this past season, and the 6-foot-8 wing was an impressive sharpshooter from long range as he hit 48.7% of his three-pointers.
There will surely be a major bidding war for Momcilovic's services, and five teams are reportedly emerging as contenders. Here's a rundown of the teams that seem to be frontrunners to land him.
It hasn't been the most confidence-inspiring offseason in Lexington as coach Mark Pope has whiffed on several transfer targets. However, he could do a lot to reverse those perceptions if he could get Momcilovic in a Wildcats uniform. UK added a pair of promising transfer guards in Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins, and adding an elite shooting wing could make it dangerous in the SEC.
Pat Kelsey's squad has been in the mix for quite a few top transfers, and the Cardinals hold a commitment from the portal's No. 1 overall player in Flory Bidunga. Now, they could be looking to add the No. 2 transfer, as well, in a move that would certainly shore up their backcourt in 2026-27.
With star freshman Koa Peat opting to remain in the draft, Arizona could be set to make an aggressive push for Momcilovic. The Wildcats have already added some high-profile backcourt transfers, and they could be looking to add a star wing.
St. John's already boasts the No. 4 transfer class in the country, and it could climb the rankings even higher if it adds Momcilovic to the mix. Rick Pitino's team already added one wing transfer in former Baylor star Tounde Yessoufou, who also withdrew from the draft on Wednesday while committing to the Red Storm. Though the Johnnies have another scholarship remaining, they may go in a different direction, as college basketball insider Adam Zagoria reported on Thursday that they are no longer pursuing Momcilovic.
Texas Tech has come up as a fifth school in contention for Momcilovic, though the Red Raiders likely have some ground to make up. Still, with Christian Anderson officially remaining in the draft, they have some money to spend and could look to add Momcilovic to a transfer class currently headlined by former Hofstra point guard Cruz Davis.
