A Brandon Aiyuk trade is long overdue.

The talented San Francisco 49ers wide receiver has enjoyed his fair share of moments with the Kyle Shanahan-led NFC West squad. However, an untimely 2024 injury combined with contract issues would make it wise for the 49ers to consider trading him this summer.

The Washington Commanders are the team that has been deemed a sensible landing spot for the former All-Pro WR on several occasions, including in Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox’s latest article detailing one move each franchise should make this offseason.

“The Washington Commanders need a reliable receiver opposite Terry McLaurin, but they didn't add one before drafting Antonio Williams in the third round,” Knox wrote Saturday. "However, trading for Brandon Aiyuk could help address this particular need."

"San Francisco 49ers John Lynch has made it clear that Aiyuk can be had, telling reporters, "We're available, give us a call. Washington may have to wait until after June 1 to add Aiyuk, due to the financial implications, but it should make that move as soon as possible.”

Acquiring Aiyuk would undoubtedly excite the Commanders’ high-upside quarterback Jayden Daniels, as it would pair him with his former collegiate teammate at Arizona State.

Aiyuk was the recipient of several pinpoint passes from Daniels during his breakout 2019-20 campaign, and Washington could help reignite that spark/chemistry by bringing Aiyuk to Washington by any means necessary.

The good news for Daniels is that Aiyuk is only three years removed from a breakout NFL campaign in which he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, showing he’s already proven he can be highly effective at this level.

If the Commanders want Daniels to continue developing according to plan, they should be motivated to pry Aiyuk from San Francisco this summer.
