The NFL has announced a six-game suspension without pay for San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Isaac Alarcon, stemming from a violation of the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances (PES). The suspension won't take effect until the start of the 2025 NFL regular season. Alarcon will be able to participate in the off-season program, attend training camp, and play in preseason games.

Alarcon, a 26-year-old Mexico native, joined the NFL through the International Player Pathway Program in 2020, initially signing with the Dallas Cowboys. After spending three seasons on Dallas’ practice squad, he joined the 49ers in 2024, aiming to secure a roster spot, but has yet to see action on the field.

The NFL’s PES policy is strict, with violations requiring mandatory suspensions. Alarcon’s positive test, though undisclosed in specifics, could potentially jeopardize his chances of making the 53-man roster. The 49ers issued a brief statement acknowledging the suspension and emphasizing their commitment to compliance with NFL regulations, but offered no further comment on Alarcon’s status. He’ll be eligible for reinstatement after Week 6, provided he meets NFL requirements.

This incident serves as a reminder of the NFL’s zero-tolerance stance on PEDs, as the league continues to prioritize player safety and competitive integrity.
