If the San Francisco 49ers move a player before or during the preseason, cornerback Renardo Green is the name to watch, according to The Athletic's Matt Barrows.
Barrows flagged Green as the most likely trade candidate, citing persistent rumors that have followed the corner dating back to last season. The 49ers have publicly denied those reports, but the team's offseason activity at the position adds some context to the chatter.
San Francisco added cornerback depth this spring, signing Nate Hobbs and Jack Jones in free agency while also selecting Ephesians Prysock in the fourth round of the draft. With Darrell Luter Jr. also in the mix, the 49ers now have legitimate competition at the position heading into camp.
That depth is what makes a Green trade more conceivable. According to Barrows, if Green were dealt, the team would have a four-way competition for a starting cornerback spot among Hobbs, Jones, Prysock and Luter.
