The San Francisco 49ers desperately need help at wide receiver and edge rusher this offseason if they want to compete in a loaded NFC West that seems to get better by the day.

While they should absolutely be attacking these positions with their cap space in free agency, the 49ers could also look to the upcoming NFL draft and make those rooms priorities as well.

On Saturday, A-to-Z Sports' Kyle Crabbs released a new two-round mock draft, and in it, he has the 49ers taking wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. in the first round (No. 27 overall).

"Wide receiver is a big need here in San Francisco. [Brandon] Aiyuk is done.Jauan Jennings is an expiring contract," Crabbs wrote. "Omar Cooper feels like a GREAT fit. He’s got some toughness after the catch, he’s not a small receiver, he runs good routes, and I imagine his play style will endear Kyle Shanahan. I love this fit as the 49ers retool around Brock Purdy."

Cooper, 22, was a four-star recruit out of Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, before committing to the University of Indiana for the 2022 season.

Over the last four years, Cooper appeared in 42 games and caught 115 passes for 1,798 yards and 22 touchdowns, while rushing for another 97 yards and two scores. He also won a national championship and earned All-Big Ten honors in 2025.

In the second round, Crabbs projected that the 49ers would take R Mason Thomas with pick No. 58.

Thomas, 21, was a four-star recruit out of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, before committing to Oklahoma for the 2022 season.

In 42 games over the last four seasons, Thomas recorded 65 tackles, 17 sacks, four forced fumbles, three passes defensed and three fumble recoveries. He earned All-SEC honors in 2024 and 2025.
