No position group is feeling the gravity of the San Francisco 49ers injury situation quite like their defensive ends. Day 6 was particularly rough for the pass rushers, which entered the day without its two starters participating in full.

Nick Bosa is only participating in team drills to start training camp and Mykel Williams remains on the PUP list while recovering from an ACL tear he suffered in Week 9 of last season. The 49ers had the depth to fill their vacancies during team drills, and the additional reps were probably good for some of the players down the depth chart as San Francisco looks to establish a higher-quality rotation on the edge.

Then Day 6 of training camp happened.

Keion White left practice early with a hip issue according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. Rookie third-round pick Romello Height was a non-participant because of an elbow issue. Veteran Cam Sample was also out because of a knee issue per the Athletic's Matt Barrows. Undrafted rookie Mikail Kamara suffered a knee injury and was carted off.

During the 11-on-11 portion of practice, the 49ers were down to Sam Okuayinonu and recently-added journeyman KJ Henry to man the edges of the defensive line. Defensive tackle Kevin Givens also got some reps on the edge according to Barrows. It's unclear where recently-signed Quinton Bell was lining up, but it seemed he would play some on the edge when the 49ers acquired him.

It's still early enough in camp that we're not hitting the panic button the edge group just yet. We also don't know the severity of the injuries for Height and White, and whether they'll miss any extended time. Either way it wouldn't be a surprise to see the 49ers make an addition or two up front just so they don't give an excessive workload to any DEs who do happen to be healthy.
