The San Francisco 49ers won't have to wait long for defensive end Nick Bosa to return to action.
Bosa, who tore his ACL in Week 3 last season in a win at home over the Arizona Cardinals, wasn't among the players placed on the physically unable to perform or non-football injury lists when the team's veterans reported for training camp Saturday.
There was some speculation Bosa may open camp on the PUP list while he recovered from his ACL injury, but general manager John Lynch on Saturday in a press conference said Bosa will be active to start training camp.
Being active doesn't mean Bosa will carry a full workload when 49ers practices begin Sunday. Lynch indicated the plan is to ease the 28-year-old into action throughout the preseason. This timeline would appear to put Bosa on track to be ready for the season opener. San Francisco opens its regular season slate on Sept. 10 in Melbourne, Australia against the Los Angeles Rams.
Bosa is entering his eighth NFL season after being selected No. 2 overall by the 49ers in the 2019 draft. In seven seasons he's suffered two ACL tears that have limited him to just 85 of a possible 117 regular season games. In those 85 contests he has 278 tackles, 64.5 sacks, 13 forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, nine pass breakups and two interceptions.
