49ers already dealing with staggering injury totals during training camp appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the most injured teams in the league in recent years, and training camp has continued that trend. Their offense has been crushed, with Ricky Pearsall out for the year and Mike Evans already on the shelf. On Wednesday, the 49ers lost defensive lineman Sam Okuayinonu to an injury, per The Athletic’s Matt Barrows.
“The 49ers finished practice today without 20 players from their 90-man roster. Sam Okuayinonu went off the field with an apparent ankle issue, depleting an already thin position for SF,” Barrows reported.
With 20 players already on the shelf, the 49ers are not doing anything to stop the substitution rumors. Whether the electric substation looming behind their practice facility actually has an impact is unknown. But San Francisco’s injury history has cost them chances at the Super Bowl in the Kyle Shanahan era.

Okuayinonu started 12 games for the 49ers last year, picking up three sacks and 39 tackles. He emerged from the scrap heap after a short run with the Tennessee Titans, helping to solidify Robert Saleh’s defense last year. But now Saleh is gone, and the 49ers may need a new tackle to replace Okuayinonu.
49ers superstar defensive end Nick Bosa is working his way back from an ACL injury he suffered toward the end of last year. One of the moves San Francisco could make to replace an injured player is signing Nick’s brother, Joey Bosa. After a great run with the Chargers, Joey Bosa spent last year with the Buffalo Bills. Could he be joining his brother after the Okuayinonu news?
The 49ers’ injuries do not stop at the sidelines. Shanahan was in a car accident in which he suffered a serious concussion that is impacting his decision-making. All eyes will be on the 49ers ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia.
