The Denver Broncos are set to begin training camp this week with a roster that's mostly unchanged from the squad that went 14-3 and reached the AFC Championship game last season.
There are a few positions that could still use more depth, however, and a few notable free agents could fill them. Here's a quick list of four players the Broncos could consider as they kick off training camp this week.
1. QB Jimmy Garoppolo: Bringing in another veteran quarterback would only make sense if Denver trades Jarrett Stidham, and there were rumblings this spring that such a scenario could happen. If the Broncos do eventually trade Stidham, an established veteran like Garoppolo could make sense. The 34-year-old QB is open to playing in 2026.
2. TE Jonnu Smith: Yes, even after drafting two tight ends in April, Denver could still use more depth at the position. Evan Engram has struggled with injuries in the past, and he underwhelmed last season. If Engram isn't available at any point this season, Adam Trautman wouldn't be much of a receiving threat to replace him. Justin Joly could be the team's long-term receiving threat at TE, but Smith is an experienced veteran who could make an instant impact.
3. ILB Bobby Wagner: Jordan Turner is starting training camp on the non-football injury (NFI) list, so the Broncos don't have a lot of depth behind starters Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad, who have both dealt with injuries in the past. The remaining healthy ILBs behind Singleton and Strnad are special teamers Karene Reid and Lavelle Bailey, plus a pair of inexperienced rookies in Red Murdock and Taurean York. Wagner probably doesn't want to join a club as a depth piece, but if any other injuries pop up, the Broncos could consider him.
4. OLB Von Miller: It didn't work out for Miller to return to Denver last season, but he has made it abundantly clear that he would like to finish his career with the Broncos. Jonathon Cooper has an arraignment date for his felony assault case set for Aug. 31, and he could face a suspension from the NFL. If Denver's looking for more depth at the position, Miller would surely be open to a reunion.
Broncos veterans are reporting for training camp today (Tuesday) with the first practice scheduled for Friday (view the full schedule). The club will undoubtedly swap out a few players on the roster this summer, and the four free agents above could be names to monitor in the coming weeks.
