Virat Kohli praised India’s wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson on Sunday for his outstanding performance in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, where he was named Player of the Tournament.

Samson came into the playing XI as a replacement and made the most of it by scoring three consecutive half-centuries, helping India win their third T20 World Cup title.

India also became the first team to win the tournament back-to-back and on home soil.

Samson’s performances were crucial in India’s victory, and Virat Kohli praised him on social media. In an Instagram story, Kohli wrote:
"What a remarkable tournament from the most well-deserved Man of the Tournament @imsanjusamson. You performed when it mattered the most. Really happy for you, Chetta."

Samson played a key role throughout the tournament. He first rescued India with an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies in a must-win Super 8 match.

In the final, the 35-year-old from Kerala again delivered a brilliant performance, scoring 89 runs to help India post another big total and defeat New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs.

Samson made history by becoming only the third player to score half-centuries in both the semi-final and the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
