Gill jokes about Rohit's run-out after MoM performance in India's seven-wicket win over Afghanistan
India captain Shubman Gill spilled the beans about his awkward confrontation with Rohit Sharma in the dressing room after the latter was run out during the first ODI against Afghanistan at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.
A miscommunication between the two batters cut short what looked like a promising start from Rohit. After getting dismissed, the former skipper trudged back to the dugout, visibly disappointed, but without any fuss.
Gill, to his credit, kept his composure after the incident and went on to anchor the chase, finishing unbeaten on 8 as. India knocked off the 195-run target with seven wickets and 13 balls to spare.
When asked during the post-match presentation whether he had spoken to Rohit about the run-out, Gill was relaxed and even slightly amused.
"I know he saw the replay. He said, 'No, it's fine.' Even in the last match that we played against Afghanistan T20s, he got run out there as well," Gill said to clear the air.

A de ja vu for Shubman Gill?
A similar incident occurred between the pair during a T20I in Mohali in 2024. On that occasion, Rohit, who was captain at the time, was run out for a duck with Gill at the other end and openly showed his frustration as he walked off.
This time, the roles were reversed in more ways than one, with Gill now the captain and Rohit making a quiet exit. There was no reaction on the field, and as per Gill, no outburst in the dressing room as well.

India fought back after Rahmanullah Gurbaz lit up Dharamshala
Gill acknowledged that Afghanistan, powered by Rahmanullah Gurbaz's explosive century, had momentarily taken the game away from India in the first half.
However, he credited his side for recovering well with the ball and noted that the Dharamshala surface, while offering some grip for the bowlers, proved an ideal batting track once India came out to chase.

"It was kind of a T20 game. The way we started, they pulled the game away from us. Gurbaz was brilliant and took the game away from us, but we fought back well. It was a brilliant wicket for batting. When we were bowling, there was a bit of grip, but it came on nicely when we batted," Gill said.
"Gurnoor, the way he bowled with the new ball and then came back at the death. Harsh as well, the way he came back after conceding 16 runs in his 1st over. In ODIs, middle overs are crucial. In bowling, you need to keep creating opportunities and maintain pressure."
India will now head off to Lucknow, where they are scheduled to play the second ODI on Wednesday, June 17.
