Morton is again searching for a head coach for its baseball program.
Ryan Lindley has stepped down as the Potters coach, announcing his decision to resign on social media Wednesday, June 10. Lindley had spent one season at the Morton helm following 16 seasons as the Potters sophomore and freshman coaches.
"As I said at the end of awards night, I'm going to step away from coaching high school baseball," he posted. "This is a hard decision to make because it's not just leading one year as the head coach—it's leaving 17 years in the Morton High school baseball program. But for my own health and wellness this is the right decision to make.
"Before any crazy rumors start, I want to stress I'm not dealing with anything life-threatening and I still intend to be involved with baseball doing camps and coaching junior high. Simply stated, stepping away from varsity baseball is the right decision for me at this time. I'll be rooting for the 2027 Potters and will do everything I can to be 100% behind the new coach and hope everyone else in the Morton Baseball community will be as well."
He was hired last August after Jesse Crawford, who resigned in June 2025 following 12 seasons where he won 328 games including the 2018 Class 3A state championship.
The third Morton coach in three seasons inherits a Potters team that went 23-13 overall and finished third in the Mid-Illini Conference at 10-4. Morton had won five in a row before its 2026 campaign ended after getting run-ruled by Dunlap in a Class 3A regional championship.
Junior Hudson Lovell was an all-Mid-Illini Conference first-team selection, while second-team all-league players Cam Crawford, Camden Taylor and Collin Burns were seniors.
