The Atlanta Falcons hired two-time NFL Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski to replace Raheem Morris after back-to-back eight-win seasons. Stefanski has been coaching at the NFL level for 20 years, beginning in a variety of roles with the Minnesota Vikings, finishing as their offensive coordinator in 2019.

From there, he jumped ship to the Cleveland Browns, where he served as their head coach from 2020-2026. Stefanski went 45-56 during his time in Cleveland, which doesn't sound great but when you consider the context is actually a remarkable achievement.

The biggest issue the Browns had during Stefanski's reign was a total lack of quality starting quarterbacks, with a half an asterisk for Baker Mayfield, who's the best they've had in the post-Tim Couch era.

One analyst believes that the Browns' bad luck at quarterback could end up following Stefanski to Atlanta. Here's Kristopher Knox at Bleacher Report outling the worst-case scenario for the Falcons offense.

"Penix and Tagovailoa, who flamed out with the Miami Dolphins, are both looking for redemption. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that either one finds it this season. If both prove to be below-average starters, Atlanta could struggle to be relevant in the NFC South. New head coach Kevin Stefanski managed to take the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs twice during his six-year tenure with the franchise. When he lacked reliable quarterback play, however, his offenses were among the most frustrating in the league."

Stefanski has to share at least a little bit of the blame for the QB situation, but the general manager is more responsible for putting the essential elements on the field - and the Browns totally failed on that end.

In Atlanta Stefanski at least has better parts to work with. While he's considered a question mark right now after a poor 2025 season, Tua Tagovailoa was a top-five overall pick for a reason and he has led the league in several statistical categories over the years since he was drafted. As for Michael Penix, he should probably be further along in his development at this point, but he also has legitimate top-10 potential.

It's up to Stefanski to get more out of them than Morris could have, and if he can squeeze the juice just right then the Falcons should become the team to beat in the NFC South.
