One the Pittsburgh Steelers wrap up mandatory minicamp, they will have a full month until the team gets back together for training camp. Once the team convenes in Latrobe, several spots on the depth charts will be up in the air.
We have circled three veterans in particular who are heading into training camp on the roster bubble and will end up fighting to make the 53-man roster as they are pushed by younger players.
We've taken for granted that longtime veteran Mason Rudolph would make the team as insurance behind Aaron Rodgers. But as second-year quarterback Will Howard progresses, Rudolph might have a better chance to make the team is if he lobbies head coach Mike McCarthy to keep four quarterbacks and not assume he will be the No. 2.
Harrison is making far too much money to be the third linebacker on a team that isn't going to use their inside linebackers as much as in previous seasons. With Cole Holcomb as a solid backup and young Carson Bruener a special teams ace, Harrison has his work cut out for him to beat out that tandem.
Despite the reports that Kaleb Johnson has looked good at minicamp, we are not sold that his spot on the 53-man roster is a given. Rookie Eli Heidenreich is an incredibly dynamic player and is only going to get better. This position could come down to how many running backs the Steelers keep and if they commit a roster spot to rookie fullback Riley Nowakowski.
