There is finally going to be football on TVs and on radios this week when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off against the New York Jets. They go on the road in their first action of the preseason after several weeks in training camp. As a result, there are going to be some younger players poised to make a strong first impact.
The Bucs need to see some things from their rookie class on offense and defense. There are UDFAs who are going to play a critical amount of snaps, and there is a coaching staff that needs to show they can handle new roles.
With the stage set, we wanted to drop three bold predictions for the Bucs against the Jets in their preseason opener.
The Bucs' offense is going to have some new faces in the mix on Friday, and that means they will be looking to make an impact one way or another. I predict that at least two of the rookies on offense will find the endzone. One will be Ted Hurst as he showcases his vertical threat ability. The other will center around UDFA quarterback Jalon Daniels, who punches in one on his own in down the line in the game. Both players are going to be interesting to see how playcaller Zac Robinson uses them, and against the Jets, this could be their best chance this preseason to make a strong impression.
The Bucs' defense is needing to force more turnovers in 2026. Todd Bowles plays an aggressive style of defense and with that comes some big hits and equally big misses. To the benefit of the Bucs, the Jets have one of the worst quarterback rooms in the NFL which means some mistakes will be made they can captialize on. Whether it is rookie Cade Klubnik or Brady Cook, the odds are in the Bucs favor against them.
The Bucs' defense is getting several shots in the arm from their rookie class. From Rueben Bain Jr., Josiah Trotter, and Keionte Scott, they are just the headliners of what is now a strong unit. As such, I believe the Bucs' pass rush is going to flex its muscles. Some depth pieces, such as Elijah Roberts and Rakeem Nunez-Roches, will have some decent snaps against the Jets' less-than-stellar backups on their offensive line. It just seems to be a perfect storm for the Bucs defense as they look to set the tone in 2026.
