With success stories such as Dillon Thieneman and recent commits such as five-star Jett Washington, and four-stars Devin Jackson and Semaj Stanford, it's not hard to see that the Oregon Ducks are building one of the top, most talented safety rooms in the country — and it's attracting more talent in later recruiting classes further out than 2027.
Class of 2028 safety CJ Craig-James, rated as a four-star, released a list of his top 12 schools, with Oregon alongside Big Ten foe Ohio State and ten other programs.
Craig-James is a bona-fide blue-chip talent, as he's the No. 7 safety and No. 77 player overall in the 2028 class, per 247Sports Composite. He's a native of Birmingham, AL, where he competes for Parker High School and is the sixth-ranked player in the state.
As a sophomore in 2025, Craig-James recorded 37 tackles, four interceptions, two pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Standing 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, he already has a college-ready body at the safety position and is known to be rangy, heavy-hitting and a ballhawk on the back end of the defense.
While Dan Lanning and his staff are busy building out their 2027 class, which currently ranks No. 2 in the nation, giving attention to Craig-James would certainly be a good idea as he's one of the top talents in the 2028 class. The competition will be stiff to land him, but Lanning and Co. have more than shown that they're up to the task.
