This upcoming season, there will be many prospects who are seeing the field for the first time in meaningful games. There is a decent number of players eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft who were either rotational pieces before or slapped with a redshirt. One prospect we are excited to see in a starting spot is Florida EDGE LJ McCray. McCray appeared in ten games last season, but is expected to take on a heavier workload this season.

  • Height: 6'6"
  • Weight: 268 lbs
  • Recruiting rank: Five-star recruit, no. 1 DL nationally in 2024
  • Hometown: Daytona Beach, Florida

This is going to be a significantly shorter summer scouting report than you have seen, as LJ McCray is a complete question mark heading into 2026. He has the frame and wingspan you look for in a pass rusher and has freaky athleticism. First step is a plus, and he has heavy, violent hands. However, there are tons of question marks as he has such a small sample size to work from. I tend to lean on the side of optimism when it comes to five-star EDGE rushers, and will be dialed in all season to see him perform for the Gators.
