If an NFL team finds itself in need of a quarterback, the 2027 NFL Draft is where they need to go looking. We could be looking at six first-round quarterbacks, with some likely to fall onto day two, but they could still be a franchise player. One of the names at the top of most lists is Ohio State's Julian Sayin.
Sayin finds himself on most rankings as a top-three quarterback, but does he belong in that range? Let's talk about it.
Julian Sayin might have one of the higher floors in the 2027 NFL Draft class, but I have questions about his ceiling. The way the NFL is trending, these teams will need to find more mobile quarterbacks to make deep runs in the postseason. Right now, I have Sayin as my QB5, and would feel more comfortable taking him in the second round.

Sayin finds himself on most rankings as a top-three quarterback, but does he belong in that range? Let's talk about it.
- Height: 6'1"
- Weight: 208 lbs
- Recruiting rank: Five-star recruit, no. 3 quarterback in 2024 (originally committed to Alabama)
- Hometown: Carlsbad, California
- Games watched: Texas, Michigan, Indiana, Miami
Strengths
- Does an excellent job layering his throws
- Easily hits all three levels of the field with precision
- Throws his receivers open among the best in the class
- Very quick release, doesn't get knocked easily by pressure
- Accuracy is a plus
- Surprisingly low turnover rate for how often he pushes the ball down the field
- Stays in pocket when pressured, does a good job using clean footwork to climb
Weaknesses
- Sayin is a smaller quarterback. He did not take many hits last season, but questions about durability will arise
- Does not offer a ton of rushing upside
- Not a ton of creativity outside the pocket
- Would love to see growth in pre-snap reads
- How high is his ceiling?
