The safety position for the Oregon Ducks has been a strength in years past, with Jevon Holland and Evan Williams excelling with the Ducks and in the NFL while Tysheem Johnson was effective at the position a season ago. This season, Purdue transfer Dillon Thieneman has taken it to another level, being named a second-team AP All-American and putting himself in the conversation to be a first-round pick in 2026 if he declares.

The 2026 recruiting class, which finished No. 2 in the nation behind the USC Trojans, per 247 Sports, includes three talented safeties in five-star Jett Washington and four-stars Devin Jackson and Xavier Lherisse.

It's safe to say that Oregon's future at the position, also considering the fact that redshirt freshman Aaron Flowers has had a breakout season alongside Thieneman in the secondary, is extremely bright.

The Ducks are also in the mix for a talented 2027 safety, as five-star Honor Fa'alave-Johnson released his final ten schools with Oregon among them.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder is the top-ranked safety in his class and the 16th-ranked player in the country, per 247 Sports Composite. He competes for Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, CA.

Speaking to Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, Fa'alave-Johnson revealed that two schools are sticking out from the others: USC and Alabama.

"As of right now USC and Alabama are setting the pace, but everyone is not too far off," he said.

Still with a long way to go in his recruitment, it appears that Oregon is still very much on the table for Fa'alave-Johnson. As history has shown, it could be a place for the young safety to thrive in Dan Lanning's defense.
