Apr. 4—Head coach: Lance Dahl. Assistants: Tim O'Neill, Ryker Hansen.
Last season: The Panthers were the Secton 1, Class 3A runners-up, behind Northfield. Three Century golfers qualified for state as individuals: Brennan Weckwerth, Ryker Hansen and Boston Collins.
2026 outlook: Weckwerth and Collins return to lead the way for an experienced team. Weckwerth finished fourth in the Section 1-3A meet, while Collins placed eighth. Weckwerth's 74.32 scoring average last season is the best among all returning players in southeastern Minnesota, while Collins' 76.0 is second-best.
Senior Colin Meyer and sophomores Vance Hansen and Evan Chestolowski return with extensive varsity experience, too. Hansen and Chestolowski played in the section meet.
Ryker Hansen, who qualified for the state meet last year, has joined the team as an assistant coach, along with Tim O'Neill and head coach Lance Dahl.
Among the new players who could compete for varsity spots are senior Grady Bargfrede and eighth-grader Samuel Moore.
Coach Dahl says: "A primary team goal is often to ultimately win the section and advance as a team for the state tournament. Other goals we have are consistent scoring that leads to a competitive team total each meet. The coaches expect our Century players to get better at course management (playing to the center of the green and avoiding unnecessary risks in difficult positions, as well as knowing the yardages they should be laying up to on certain holes). As a team, we have standards with honesty, manners on and off the course — being good young men."
Head coach: Scott Glandon. Assistants: Kaysie Otterness.
Last season: The Rockets placed 10th in the Section 1, Class 3A meet. Then-senior Drew Glandon was their top individual finisher. He placed 22nd. Classmate Brock Clarey also qualified for the second day of the section meet, as did then-freshman Landon Eckhoff, who placed 44th.
2026 outlook: Eckhoff, a sophomore who played in every varsity event for JM last season, is back to lead the way. Head coach Scott Glandon said Eckhoff "is our most consistent player on the team. He has been working all summer on his swing mechanics and is primed for a new year." Senior Pierce Jacobson ("Pierce brings positive energy to our team dynamics. He has been hard at work being more consistent off the tee box," Glandon said) and freshman Miles Anderson ("has a great swing and tempo," Glandon said. "His greatest strength is his short game. He has really soft hands around the green and is one of the best putters on the team.") are other top returners for the Rockets.
Coach Glandon says: "We are going to be a young team with only one senior, but I have high expectations for these guys. Our goal is to be competitive in all of our meets and to continue to improve as the season goes on. We should be playing our best golf at the end of the year when we get ready to play in sections. ... I am looking forward to watching these guys improve every day. They have the right mindset and outlook on the season. We will continue to get better as the season goes on and I feel like we will have some young players that will make huge jumps in their game and scores."
Head coach: Jake Waldman. Assistant: Jeff Fritzjunker.
Last season: The Eagles placed third as a team in the Section 1, Class 2A meet, with a team total of 630. They finished behind only champion Albert Lea (606) and runner-up PIZM (624). Colton Rich capped a storied high school career with a fifth-place finish in the section meet and a 22nd-place finish at the Class 2A state meet.
2026 outlook: While Lourdes lost Rich — the team's anchor for the past three seasons — it has some talented golfers returning. That group is led by senior Owen Hoehn, who placed 13th in the section meet a year ago. A big group of juniors is back, too: Gavin Groettum, Michael Norman and Charlie Kor all played in the section meet, as did freshman Charlie Moeschler. Kor and Moeschler tied for 21st in the section, while Norman was 27th and Groettum placed 34th.
Head coach: Gunnar Olson. Assistants: Pat Franko.
Last season: The Spartans placed fourth at the Section 1, Class 3A meet, led by then-senior Isaac Ahn, who won section medalist honors, while classmate Tim Sexton placed third. Ahn, now a freshman golfer at Harvard, finished seventh in the Class 3A state meet.
2026 outlook: The Spartans have two players back from last season's section meet team — senior Will Gyarmaty and junior Colton Huseth. Gyarmaty has been in Mayo's varsity lineup for the past couple of seasons and, coach Olson said, "has really stood out as a leader and a hard worker." Huseth played his first varsity season last year, and, Olson said, "we're excited to have him back competing for the Spartans." Olson noted both Gyarmaty and Huseth are long-hitters, who get a lot of distance off the tee. Gyarmaty averaged 84 over 16 events, while Huseth averaged 83 over 14 events, "so we're looking for both of them to play a big role for us again this year."
Coach Olson says: "Our expectations this season are to compete at a high level and continue developing our players throughout the program. We want to keep building a culture where our guys put themselves in a position to improve over the course of the season through hard work, consistency and daily commitment. We also want them to understand that the work they put in is not just for individual success, but for the success of the team as a whole."
Head coach: Karen Kolbet. Assistants: Peter Bouquet, Mark Bolster, Jeff Meyer.
Last season: The Spartans finished fifth in the Section 1, Class 3A meet, shooting a 36-hole team total of 732. Flora Bolster tied for seventh individually and qualified for the Class 3A state meet. Dylan Raukar placed 13th in the section. Bolster finished 36th at state, shooting 89-76 — 165.
2026 outlook: Mayo has some star power back, as all three of its All-Big Nine Conference players from last season return to the varsity this year: senior Flora Bolster, freshman Sloane Bolster and sophomore Dylan Raukar.
"Flora Bolster has her approach shot distances dialed in giving her consistent birdie looks on the green," coach Karen Kolbet said, while "Sloane Bolster put in a lot of time in the offseason both with indoor and outdoor rounds, so it should be exciting watching her progress and hard work translate to this golf season. Dylan Raukar is a top returning varsity player now as a sophomore. She also played in many of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf tour events in the offseason." Raukar also has the rare honor of being one of 13 young ladies in the country on the LPGA Girls Golf Board of Directors for 2026.
Noteworthy: The Spartans rely on charitable donations to be able to practice at our local course (range balls, green fees, etc), participate in invitationals (as there are typically fees associated with each of these meets) and update our equipment when needed (ie. golf bags, training tools, etc.). They utilize the 4-Giving platform as a convenient way for community members to donate: https://www.4giving.com/donation/8C07
Coach Kolbet says: "I'm optimistic about this season since we have all 12 girls who played in varsity and junior varsity matches back with us. In addition to the girls with competitive experience, we have many returning girls and a few of our new team members who have either made significant improvements or have had previous experience on other teams that will create a very competitive environment for our junior varsity and possibly even our varsity line-ups."
Head coach: Deanna Deutsch. Assistants: Brittany Ellena, Eric Deutsch, Kevin Coughlin, Peter Moeschler.
Last season: The Eagles placed fourth in a very competitive Section 1, Class 2A meet. Their 36-hole team score of 710 was just 11 shots behind section champion Lake City. Allison Deutsch placed fifth in the section as an eighth-grader to qualify for the state meet, where she finished 47th out of 88 golfers. Paige Moeschler narrowly missed a trip to state, placing eighth in the section.
2026 outlook: Moeschler, a junior, and Deutsch, a freshman, are the Eagles' top returners. They were both named All-Hiawatha Valley League last season. "Both girls have been playing for years and have a great knowledge of the game," coach Deanna Deutsch said.
The Eagles have just two seniors on the team — Kendall Powell and Audrey Oscarson — but their overall numbers are as good as they've been in some time. Coach Deutsch said the roster size has nearly doubled from two years ago. The future looks bright — and competitive — for the Eagles, too, with six eighth-graders and six seventh-graders on the team.
Coach Deutsch says: "With such a young squad last year, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, we qualified for Day 2 of sections as a team for the first time and were just 11 strokes from qualifying as a team for state. While our section returns some great teams, I hope we continue to build on the success of last season and make another run at sections. ... Unfortunately, we have not been able to be outside yet (as of late March). We have been working inside on fundamentals, rules, and strength and conditioning. We are really grateful for Rochester Indoor Golf Center for being able to accommodate us the past couple of weeks as well. We jump right into a match the first week back from break so it will be a good test to see where we are at. ... Our more experienced girls have done an exceptional job with guiding the newer members and taking ownership of the team. I'm very lucky to have a ton of coaching support as well."
Head coach: Eric Kartheiser. Assistants: Tim O'Neill, Kaysie Otterness.
Last season: The Panthers placed 11th at the Section 1, Class 3A championships. Then-freshman Stella Link and then-sophomore Cora Erickson qualified for the final round of the meet. Link placed 34th, Erickson finished 44th.
2026 outlook: Century will welcome back its entire lineup that played in the Section 1-3A meet last spring. That group is led by junior Cora Erickson and sophomore Stella Link. The Panthers also return senior Tea McEachern, juniors Layla Price and Kylie Bruce, and sophomore Alexis Pronk.
Erickson broke 100 five times last year, including shooting an 89, the team's best single-round score of the season. She finished the year with a team-best 18-hole scoring average of 104.32. McEachern (105.71, broke 100 twice) and Link (106.16) were close behind.
Head coach: Kelsey Stenzel. Assistants: Spencer Wehr.
Last season: The Rockets placed eighth in Section 1, Class 3A. Two golfers qualified for the final day of the section meet — then-senior Claire Bogenrief, who placed 12th, and then-sophomore Ashtyn Krenke, who placed 38th in the section.
2026 outlook: John Marshall's top returning players include all five varsity juniors who have played golf since seventh or eighth grade. Coach Stenzel's assessment of those returners: Ashtyn Krenke played in the MN PGA Junior Golf this past summer and shot consistently. Her scores continuously improved. Mia Webb has a lot of power in her drives and shoots consistently. She requests feedback on how to become a better player. Cate Bogenrief does a great job with fairways hit, with 52.4% from this past year. She is also good at reading putts and has an average of 1.90 putts per green. Esmae Miller has a great drive and is excellent at reading putts. She can bounce back when challenges occur. Kaleigh Risser is great at hitting the ball straight and having a positive mindset. She is coachable and always asks for feedback.
Coach Stenzel says: "I am excited to be back on the course soon and help each player become confident leaders. Golf is about the relationships formed, having a team mentality, and the personal growth achieved. A golf game will never be perfect, so I always tell my players to celebrate the small rewards in a round of golf."
