Josh Elander’s year one as Tennessee’s baseball coach ended up being a down year by recent Volunteer standards. Following Tony Vitello was never going to be easy, and to Elander’s credit, he did eventually get things rolling in the right direction. A couple of key injuries didn’t help during tournament season, and Tennessee was sent home in the regional round in Chapel Hill.
Tennessee’s bumpy ride is further evidenced by a lack of top end talent and depth in this year’s MLB Draft. Tegan Kuhns is the only Volunteer inside of the top 150 prospects, according to ESPN. Tennessee, as usual, has several high school commits ready to come off the board early and make their final decisions.
