The Los Angeles Lakers are about to begin what could turn out to be a very consequential offseason. They're projected to have tens of millions of dollars of salary cap space, as well as two future first-round draft picks to offer in a trade, and those resources could allow them to start to truly build a championship-caliber team around Luka Doncic.
Los Angeles will also have the No. 25 pick in this month's NBA draft. They have been working out prospects in this year's draft class, including Meleek Thomas, a guard from the University of Arkansas.
Thomas played one season of college basketball and averaged 15.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game. While he shot just 43.5% from the field, he made 41.6% of his 5.3 3-point attempts per game, and at about 6-foot-5, he is considered a deadly perimeter shooter, both off the catch and off the dribble.
He can get to the basket off the dribble and appears to have good fluidity with the ball in his hands. While he has some trouble keeping his man in front of him defensively, he did average 1.5 steals a game this past season and puts forth good effort on that end of the floor.
There are concerns, however, about Thomas' lack of strength, as he weighs a modest 185 pounds. But he is projected to possibly go early in the second round of the draft and perhaps even toward the end of the first round.
