But, the argument was if we can play .500 baseball until Burnes and the bullpen gets back healthy we could make a run.

Our pitching has been way better than expected recently, we have a shot if the bats turn on. Last night was a start.

That argument was based around the 2025 idea that 4 games over .500 got you the wildcard.

The problem is that so many teams are outperforming what they did last year. The last wild card spot in the NL right now is 8 games over .500 in St. Louis.

I don't think you can afford to tread water if you want to compete late.

Corbin Burnes said he has two more bullpen sessions before he faces hitters, likely in a live session next Friday. He thinks it could be a couple of weeks or so before he starts getting into games. Still targeting a mid-July-ish return.

Gambo made the comment yesterday, that this past offseason might be Hazen’s best… He literally has zero $$ to work with, yet found Soroka, Arrenado, Vargas, Sewald, Loiziga…Then calls up Fernandez and Waldy and dumps Thomas.
Pretty amazing results thus far.

Torey Lovullo said A.J. Puk threw 20 pitches yesterday to live hitters. The velocity was in the mid 90s mph. "The next steps are to continue creating some live situations. Scheduled to throw in a game on Saturday at Salt River Fields."

Tommy Troy is not in tonight's lineup in large part because of how late in the day the team finalized the decision to put Gurriel on the IL, Lovullo said. Still, Lovullo intimated that Troy will get some runway in left field while Gurriel is out.

A.J. Puk threw a scoreless inning in the complex league today, his first official outing post-surgery. Retired all three batters he faced on 10 pitches. Was told his fastball was 93-94 mph.
