The 2025 Los Angeles Rams put together one of the most dominant seasons in NFL history. They just never got to show it on the biggest stage.
Pro Football Focus ranked the 2025 Rams as the seventh-best team to not win a Super Bowl over the past 20 years. Los Angeles posted a 96.0 overall PFF grade last season, the best mark for any team in the PFF era dating back to 2006.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and receiver Puka Nacua headlined an offense that ranked as the most efficient and explosive in football. Stafford won MVP after leading the NFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns, while Nacua led the league in receptions, finished second in receiving yards and came in fourth in Offensive Player of the Year voting. As a whole, Sean McVay's offense ranked No. 1 in scoring.
On the other side of the ball, the Rams' defense ranked 10th in EPA per play, with a formidable defensive line and breakout performances from defensive backs Kamren Curl and Kamren Kinchens alongside edge rushers Byron Young and Jared Verse with Kobie Turner in the middle of the defensive line. However, an overall weak secondary played a role in their demise after they gave up more than 330 passing yards in each of their playoff games, including nearly 400 yards to Sam Darnold in the NFC championship loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Still, the resume speaks for itself. The 2025 Rams graded higher than every other team on PFF's list, including the 2007 New England Patriots, who are widely considered one of the greatest teams in NFL history, and both of Kyle Shanahan's San Francisco 49ers squads, which ranked third and 10th, respectively.
McVay's group sits alongside some of the more accomplished regular-season teams the league has seen in recent memory. Whether Los Angeles can convert that caliber of play into a Super Bowl title remains to be seen.
They're certainly trying to make another big push in 2026 after bringing back Stafford and adding edge rusher Myles Garrett and cornerback Trent McDuffie in blockbuster trades this offseason.
