2025 NWSL Midfielder of the Year Manaka Matsukubo set to leave North Carolina Courage via transfer to Chelsea

Today, Chelsea have confirmed that North Carolina Courage and Japan Women’s National Team midfielder, Manaka Matsukubo is set to join the club for an undisclosed transfer fee.

She has signed a new five-year deal with Chelsea.

“I’m so excited to be joining Chelsea, a club with a lot of history,” said Matsukubo. “As a small child, I followed Chelsea because it is a club everyone in the world knows about.”

‘The club has a strong history of winning trophies and has done so well at the top of the game, so I couldn’t pass up this opportunity, and I want to help continue this club’s tradition of winning trophies for years to come.”

Chelsea have signed Manaka Matsukubo.

The Japanese international has signed a five-year contract with the club. ✍️

After a historic season with 15 goals contributions (11 goals and four assists) in 2025, Manaka was named Midfielder of the Year and was nominated for Most Valuable Player.

She is widely regarded as one of the top young players in the football.
