2025 NFL schedule: Rams matchup named the top game for 3 other teams this season

The Los Angeles Rams will be a hot matchup in 2025.

The defending NFC West champions have an interesting schedule that features a lot of quality teams and some familiar faces. That alone makes the lineup compelling, but The Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer writes that three teams will have their date with the Rams circled on their calendar early.

Iyer picked the top game for all 32 teams' 2025 schedule and wrote that the Rams' matchups against the Detroit Lions in Week 15, the San Francisco 49ers in Weeks 5 and 10, and Atlanta Falcons in Week 17 will be those respective club's best games of their individual seasons.

"The Lions and Rams will meet again in Round 3 of Jared Goff and Stafford going head-to-head against their former teams. This should be another fun offensive explosion, with 'showtime' made for L.A.

"The Falcons hired Raheem Morris and Zac Robinson away from the Rams, putting in some of that team's former schemes. The big arm of Michael Penix Jr. could get a workout with Stafford, Puka Nacua, and Davante Adams on the other side.

"The 49ers do not face much stellar competition on their 2025 schedule. Their opponents have a league-worst .415 winning percentage from last season, with only six winning teams and only four playoff teams. One is the Rams, counted twice, with the Texans and Buccaneers being the other two. So, by default, the 49ers' biggest games to get back on track in the NFC West are against their archrival."

Those ascertains all make sense given all three have deep connections to the Rams. The Goff-Stafford trade will forever be apart of both clubs' lore, as well as the Falcons' sideline connections. The 49ers contend with the Rams for the divisional crown almost every season, too, especially given Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan's previous working relationship in Washington.

Coincidentally, Iyer wrote that the Rams' biggest matchup is against a team they don't have a direct connection with, but one that ended their 2024 season: the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.

"The Rams, the last conference Super Bowl champions before the Eagles, are back in the mix for NFC title contention with Sean McVay remixing the offense around Matthew Stafford, which will be supported by a quickly rebuilt, promising young defense. This is the biggest non-division road game for Los Angeles."

Whatever happens in 2025, there will a lot of exciting games for the Rams.
