The Los Angeles Rams head into 2025 looking to defend their NFC West title and make another deep playoff run. They kept Matthew Stafford, signed Davante Adams and added some depth pieces in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The 2025 NFL schedule won't be released until May 14, but the Rams know which opponents they'll face throughout the season. L.A. will want to get the season started off the right foot, but the NFL might want to begin the season with a marquee matchup to get the league ready for a big year.
Over the past five seasons, the Rams have faced the Detroit Lions, the Seattle Seahawks, the Buffalo Bills, the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys on opening weekend. The past two games have been on the road. For the most part, those are big matchups against well-known and/or contending franchises. It stands to reason the Rams' 2025 Week 1 opponent will be the same.
So, here are five potential Week 1 matchups for the Rams in 2025.
The NFL loves a playoff rematch, and a Rams vs. Eagles showdown to open the season would be sensational. The Eagles are defending their Super Bowl title and the Rams want to show the world they can still go toe-to-toe with Philadelphia. It will be a tough start for teams but a good table-setter.
A divisional showdown would be a great season-opener for the Rams. And since L.A. opened the past two seasons on the road, perhaps the NFL will keep the Rams at home to start the 2025 season. Rams vs. 49ers is always an electric matchup in the division, and a Week 1 game would set the stage for the rest of the NFC West.
While this doesn't look like an exciting matchup on paper, it would be a fun game for either side. The Panthers have a young and developing squad led by Bryce Young and 2025 first-round receiver Tetairoa McMillan, while the Rams have a veteran-laded team but an inexperienced defense.
This could also be a nice mid-season primetime game to maintain the spark in the later months, but the NFL might not be able to stop itself from putting two of the top teams in their respective conferences against each other to open the year. Pitting two top-10 quarterbacks against each other is never a bad thing, either.
Another quality quarterback matchup between Matthew Stafford and C.J. Stroud. This game also pits another young team against a veteran team. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans also has a lot of experience playing against Sean McVay during his time coaching the 49ers' defense. There were would be a lot of offensive sparks, for sure.
