So draft is this weekend. I am praying the Dbacks stop taking OFs in round 1, especially sub 5'10 ones.

Dbacks pick 18th and 29th. They have no second round pick due to signing Burnes.

I see clear organizational need in this order:

Pitching
Catching
First base
Third base

This draft is deep at SS though so it's possible they go SS and move Lawlar to third, though he would be the lightest hitting 3b this side of KeyBryan Hayes.

Here are my early favorites at 18.

RHP Gage Wood. Perfect game in the College WS. His fastball is absolutely electric. 70 rated. I see him being a lights out closer in the majors or a good 3rd starter. I prefer the former.

RHP Tyler Bremmer. He's rated higher than Wood because he has 3 + pitches. I still prefer a generational tool over 3 good tools.

LHP Kruz Schoolcraft. The dreaded high school pitcher. You usually have to go over slot, which is not what the Dbacks do. Still he is 6'8" at 18 with 3 plus pitches.

SS Steele Hall. High school SS only 17 but he has speed, glove, and arm for days. His ETA would be like 2028-2029 but much like Schoolcraft, you are taking a big swing at talent over ETA.

C Caiden Brodine. He's the Mark Grace of catchers. He won't mash but he never strikes out and just displays excellent bat control. 21 year old switch hitter I think he is in the majors in 2 years. Excellent pitch framer and decent at throwing guys out.

I agree that pitching has to be a priority in this draft.

Bremner feels like the safe way to go at 18. I really like guys that can pitch though as opposed to guys that can throw.

Wood I would like as well , just feels like he has more to figure out. Unless of course he has lol(CWS game was awesome)

Eyanson , Thompson and Quick are the other arms that would be worth a shot at 29.

I would rather swing at Schoolcraft than Bremmer but I am a buy the tool guy

Rated 14 on MLB.com board, and second highest rated available at 18:

“A slightly bigger and lefty-swinging version of Jett Williams, a Texas prep shortstop who went 14th overall to the Mets in 2022, Cunningham is a better pure hitter at the same stage and perhaps the best in the 2025 prep class. He led Team USA with a .417 average at an 18-and-under World Cup qualifier in Panama last August. Cunningham has exceptional barrel control and rarely swings and misses. He has a mature approach, covers the entire strike zone and utilizes the whole field. Though he's not physical, his bat speed and ability to repeatedly barrel balls should enable him to get to 15-20 homers per season. Cunningham has plus speed and plays with a lot of energy on the bases and in the field. He has displayed good actions and solid-to-plus arm strength in the past but has seemed less twitchy at shortstop this spring, and many scouts believe he'll wind up moving to second base. He'll be 19 on Draft Day and eligible as a sophomore in 2027 if he attends Texas.”
