Was listening to Gambo a short while ago and I think he summed it all up quite well.

- Hazen's moves were given a B grade by all of the so-called experts.
- However, it's important to note that Hazen's job became much more challenging, surprisingly, when both the Twins and Giants became sellers.
- Hazen was mainly dealing with assets that has expiring contracts, where teams simply won't give away their top talent for a rental player.
- Yet, there is a good chance that at minimum, 2 of the 8 pitchers Hazen got back will turn into top quality MLB producers, and if that happens, Hazen's moves will skyrocket in terms of grading.

As for Gallen, according to Gambo there were two teams that tried to steal Zac at the last minute. Hazen didn't bite, which was the right move. The options for Gallen boil down to this: The QO offer will be in the area of $22m or so. The Dbacks ONLY get a comp pick if Gallen signs with another team with a total contract value worth more than $50m. So, if Zac were to only see offers for 2 years and $40m, and if he decided to take that offer (which I don't believe he would), the Dbacks would not get a comp pick.
Will Gallen get offers from other teams with contract values in excess of $50m? I think his performance over his remaining 10 starts or so will play a huge factor. Hell, if he somehow returns to CY Young consideration Zac, the Dbacks might toss a 3 or 4 year deal at him!

All in all...it's hard to argue Hazen could've done much better here.
I thought I heard them say later on as a clarification that's it's >$50m for the first round comp pick but they would get an end of 2nd round comp pick if < $50. Searching on the rules I'm seeing:

General rule: If a team loses a QO-rejecting free agent, it receives a compensation pick after Competitive Balance Round B.

If the team receives revenue sharing and the player signs for $50M or more: The team gets a pick after the first round
So I think they were saying that we get the general rule if he signs for less than 50 but the second rules kicks in if it's over. Does anyone know if that's accurate or not? I'm not completely familiar with these rules.

Yes. Less than $50m and we get an after 2nd round (before the 3rd round) pick…

How do you guys rate the pitcher that got traded to Texas? I think it is a good trade for the rangers because they already have 2 great veteran pitchers, 1 good veteran that's on the IL in Tyler Mahle, and then 2 very promising young prospects in Jack Lieter and Kumar Rocker. They have a better bull pen now as well with Kumar Rocker likely going to the pen for spot duty. but I also feel like their offense is primary reason they aren't better than they are in the standings. could be what keeps them out of the playoffs.

Kelly is a solid veteran performer

He’ll give you innings and rarely has a blowout

He was nails versus the Rangers in the 2023 World Series

I'm hoping that he will throw in this series vs. the mariners. rangers need a split at worst. I'm not sure about the prospects that Texas gave to AZ. Some people say it was too much, but others have said it's a good deal for both teams. My thoughts are the rangers have done pretty well to get their young prospects up to the majors early. if anything that may be why they've struggled a bit the last year or so.
