HILLSDALE COUNTY — As another outstanding year of high school athletics in Hillsdale County ISD is on the horizon, it is time to conclude our 2025-26 calendar year review with a look at spring sports MVP and awards lists, as well as our coaches of the year and team champions awards.

Dawson Scharer, Hillsdale Academy Track and Field
Scharer closed his Hillsdale Academy career with one of the most dominant track and field seasons in county history, helping lead the Colts to their first MHSAA Division 4 boys team state championship.
The senior swept the Division 4 state finals in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles, posting a personal-best 14.63 seconds in the 110s and a season-best 38.52 in the 300s to win state titles. He combined for 21 victories in the two events while earning league, regional, MITCA Team State and Hillsdale Area Best titles. Scharer also earned all-state honors as part of Hillsdale Academy's 4x400 relay team. He capped his season by competing at the MITCA Champions of Champions meet and Nike Outdoor Nationals.
With state titles, team success and consistent excellence throughout the spring, Scharer earns Daily News Spring Male Athlete MVP honors.
Jacob Drawe, Pittsford Baseball and Track and Field
Drawe capped an impressive senior year by starring in both baseball and track and field for Pittsford.
On the diamond, the Wildcats ace recorded five victories and 73 strikeouts while helping Pittsford earn a share of the SCAA East championship. He also led the team with 14 stolen bases and earned first-team all-conference honors. In track and field, Drawe qualified for the Division 4 state finals in long jump and as a member of Pittsford's 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams, helping the Wildcats collect conference titles and Area Best honors along the way.
Laura LeMar, Pittsford Softball and Track and Field
LeMar's senior season showcased why she was one of the area's top all-around athletes.
The Pittsford standout helped lead the Wildcats to an SCAA East softball championship, finishing with more than 125 strikeouts, multiple double-digit strikeout performances and two no-hitters. At the plate, she nearly reached 20 stolen bases, scored 30 runs, drove in more than 20 runs and hit three home runs.
Her success extended to track and field, where she qualified for the Division 4 state finals in discus after winning multiple events during the season, including an Area Best championship. Her impact in two sports made her the clear choice for Spring Female Athlete MVP.
Zailey Conroy, Camden-Frontier Track and Field
Conroy emerged as one of Hillsdale County's biggest breakout stars during her sophomore season.
The Camden-Frontier standout qualified for the Division 4 state finals in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter races. Her best performance came in the 400, where she earned all-state honors with a third-place finish. Conroy won six races in the event and added Area Best and conference championships. She also helped anchor the RedHawks' 4x400 relay team and positioned herself as one of the area's top returning athletes heading into next season.
Carson Young, Jonesville
Young played a major role in Jonesville's memorable postseason run and established himself as one of the area's top baseball players.
The junior batted .463 with 38 hits, 12 doubles and 36 RBIs while posting a .579 on-base percentage. He also excelled behind the plate, throwing out 11 baserunners. On the mound, Young went 3-1 with a 1.06 ERA and 24 strikeouts. His signature moment came in the regional semifinals when he delivered a walk-off hit against Centreville to send the Comets to the regional championship game.
Hannah Kies, Will Carleton Academy Trap Shooting
Kies turned in the most dominant performance by any high school shooting athlete in the state of Michigan this year. The senior recorded perfect scores throughout the regular season, earned all-state honors and was named Michigan's High Female Overall Season Average champion. She capped her career by posting a 99-of-100 score at the state tournament in Mason, claiming Female Varsity High Gun championship and the event's top overall score.
Morgan Wood, Jonesville Soccer
Wood served as Jonesville's captain and offensive leader during her senior season. The first-team all-conference selection produced one of the year's most memorable moments when she scored the game-winning goal in double overtime against Constantine in the MHSAA playoffs, securing the Comets' first victory of the season and first in two years.
Cheyanne Goodlock and Dhara Patel, Hillsdale Tennis
Goodlock and Patel anchored Hillsdale's No. 1 doubles lineup and earned all-conference honors after a strong season. The duo collected key victories throughout the year and advanced to the conference championship match, ultimately finishing as conference runners-up (all-league) and one of their conference's top doubles teams.
Jonesville Baseball
Jonesville produced the county's favorite postseason run of the year. The Comets captured district and regional victories, highlighted by a dramatic extra-inning win over state-ranked Centreville, before finishing one win shy of a state quarterfinal berth.

The Colts delivered one of the greatest athletic years in school history. The boys captured the program's first MHSAA Division 4 team state championship, while the girls won conference, regional and MITCA Team State championships and produced multiple all-state performers.
Reader's Choice Favorite Team Champion: Reading Softball
Despite featuring a young roster and first-year leadership, Reading captured its fifth consecutive district championship and continued one of the county's strongest softball traditions.
