11 area wrestlers earn Keystone State Championships titles

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Eleven area youth wrestlers earned Keystone State Championships titles Saturday and Sunday at Bryce Jordan Center.

In the boys 15-16 bracket, Berlin Brothersvalley's Dawson Shaffer (145 pounds), Bishop McCort Catholic's Emory Gunby (155) and Chestnut Ridge's Kooper Deputy (110) each won titles. Deputy won a 13-2 major decision over East Penn's Camren Martinez. Shaffer collected a 17-0 technical fall in 2:16 over Crawford County's Brayden Williams. Gunby beat General McLane's Logan Hayes 11-2.

Meyersdale's Cooper Porter (175) was a runner-up. Berlin Brothersvalley's Lukas Smith (124) was third, and Carter Durst (175) finished fourth. Meyersdale's Brennan Schardt (145) was fifth, and Central Cambria's Hadyn Strittmatter (130) and Chestnut Ridge's Colby Kaufman (117) were each sixth.

Central Cambria's Makenna Smith (112) pinned Hickory's Marissa Tanner in 55 seconds for the girls 15-16 title. Central Cambria's Corina Kubat (170) was fourth. Forest Hills' Olivia Greathouse (100) and Meyersdale's Isabella Sleasman (136) were each sixth. Bedford's Noelle Murray (200) was seventh, and Meyersdale's Aurora Comfort (112) took eighth.

In boys 13-14, Chestnut Ridge's Crew Musselman (82), Ligonier Valley's Levi Foust (172) and Penn Cambria's Nathaniel Mack (157) each finished with silver. Chestnut Ridge's Carter Ickes (96) took third. Bishop McCort's Noah Losey (103) and Chestnut Ridge's Grayden Paris (82) were each fourth. Bishop McCort's Sanchir Edington (110) finished seventh.

Portage's Ellie Myers (103) was a runner-up in girls 13-14.

In boys 11-12, Bishop McCort's Ryder Ascherl (90) and Forest Hills' Bronsyn Baxter (95) each won gold. Ascherl collected an 18-0 tech fall in 3:17 over Kane's Mason Myers. Baxter beat State College's Nate Kasak 6-2. Portage's Joey Myers (70) earned silver. Chestnut Ridge's Dexter Ward (115) was third, and Chestnut Ridge's Kayne Burkett (100) finished fourth. Bishop McCort's Blaise Wilson (100) and Greater Johnstown's Logan Bonfilio (75) each finished fifth. Penn Cambria's Carter Hardy (70) took sixth. Bedford's Jackson Beegle (75), Holy Name's Jackson Strittmatter (65) and Penn Cambria's Evan Becker (105) were seventh.

United's Madelyn Oliver (145) was a runner-up in girls 11-12. Chestnut Ridge's Susan Musselman (95) took fourth. Cambria Heights' Maci Drass (83) was fifth.

In girls 6-and-under, Portage's Brynlee Myers (45) won gold with a 15-0 tech fall in 3:00 over Fleetwood's Brezlynn Hertzog. North Star's Taylor Ogline (40) was fourth. Chestnut Ridge's Alyvia Yothers (45) finished eighth.

Ligonier Valley's Timmy Wakefield (40) was a champion in the boys 6-and-under bracket with a 13-7 decision over Tussey Mountain's Levi Warren. Richland's Alex Haupt (75) was sixth. Portage's Brayden Rusnak (52) took eighth.

Chestnut Ridge's Laiken Hindinger (75) finished fifth in the girls 7-8 classification. Conemaugh Township's Aria Miller (75) took seventh.

In boys 7-8, Richland's Luca Croteau (50) was fifth. Chestnut Ridge's Bradyn Fether (67) took sixth. Chestnut Ridge's Easton Hillegass (55) was eighth.

Richland's Nadia Croteau (85) beat Apollo-Ridge's Gianna Suhadolnik 11-0 for girls 9-10 gold. Meyersdale's Harper Berkley (77) was sixth. Conemaugh Township's Bria McDannell (94) took eighth.

In boys 9-10, Holy Name's Jordy Strittmatter (50) beat Conemaugh Township's Paxton Rosa 1-0 for gold. Chestnut Ridge's Toby Bernash (95) won a 17-0 tech fall in 2:40 over Erie's Raeion Shirley. Chestnut Ridge's Kohyn Deputy (60) won silver. Forest Hills' Henry Roxby (60) and Portage's Brody Myers (70) each finished third. Holy Name's Jace Strittmatter (55) was fourth. Bedford's Ezra Turkovich (150) was sixth.
